Easy No-Knead Garlic-Butter Naan

By Kyrié the Foodié Back to Recipes

My easy no-knead garlic-butter naan is a soft, pillowy Indian-style flatbread that comes together with minimal effort and no fancy equipment.

By skipping the kneading process, you save time and energy while still ending up with naan that’s tender, chewy, and full of flavor. The dough is simply mixed, left to rise, and then cooked quickly on a hot skillet or griddle. This gives the naan its signature golden, slightly charred spots.

It’s the perfect bread for beginners or anyone craving fresh naan without the hassle!

My favorite part about making homemade garlic-butter naan apart is the irresistible butter garlic topping. Melted butter infused with minced garlic is brushed generously over the warm naan as soon as it comes off the heat, allowing the bread to soak up all that rich, savory goodness.

A sprinkle of fresh herbs like cilantro or parsley adds brightness and makes each bite even more aromatic. This combination turns a simple flatbread into something you’ll want to eat straight from the pan.

Best of all, this no-knead naan pairs beautifully with just about anything – curries, stews, soups, or even grilled meats and vegetables. It also makes a great base for quick flatbread pizzas or wraps. Whether you’re making it as a side for a cozy Indian dinner or as a stand-alone treat, this Easy No-Knead Butter Garlic Naan delivers all the taste and texture of restaurant-quality bread in the comfort of your own kitchen, with hardly any work at all.

Description

My easy no-knead garlic-butter naan is a soft, pillowy flatbread cooked on a skillet and brushed with rich garlic butter for a flavorful, restaurant-quality bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the dough:

  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

For the yeast mixture:

  • 2/3 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

For the garlic butter topping:

  • 23 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Cilantro, chopped finely (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the whole milk, whisked eggs, salt, flour, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture starts to come together.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve the instant yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the large bowl with the flour mixture. Stir using a silicon spatula until fully combined and a sticky dough forms. Use your hands at the end if necessary
  4. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature for 1½ hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. While the dough rises, make the garlic butter topping by adding the butter and minced garlic into a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for one minute and set aside.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal portions (depending on how large you want your naan). Roll each portion into a circular or oval shape about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Heat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Make sure the skillet is completely hot before cooking the naan! Cook each naan for 1 – 2 minutes on one side until bubbles form and the underside is golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 1 – 2 minutes.
  8. Remove the cooked naan from the skillet and immediately brush generously with the garlic butter. Serve warm.

Made this to pair with butter chicken for my dinner last night and I was skeptical on my ability to be able to pull it off BUT they turned out phenomenal! Perfect amount of butter, amazing texture, and by far the easiest bread recipe I’ve seen. Thank you!
