Description

My easy no-knead garlic-butter naan is a soft, pillowy flatbread cooked on a skillet and brushed with rich garlic butter for a flavorful, restaurant-quality bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the dough:

  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

For the yeast mixture:

  • 2/3 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

For the garlic butter topping:

  • 2 - 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Cilantro, chopped finely (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the whole milk, whisked eggs, salt, flour, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture starts to come together.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve the instant yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the large bowl with the flour mixture. Stir using a silicon spatula until fully combined and a sticky dough forms. Use your hands at the end if necessary
  4. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature for 1½ hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. While the dough rises, make the garlic butter topping by adding the butter and minced garlic into a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for one minute and set aside.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal portions (depending on how large you want your naan). Roll each portion into a circular or oval shape about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Heat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Make sure the skillet is completely hot before cooking the naan! Cook each naan for 1 – 2 minutes on one side until bubbles form and the underside is golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 1 – 2 minutes.
  8. Remove the cooked naan from the skillet and immediately brush generously with the garlic butter. Serve warm.
