For the dough:
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup melted butter
For the yeast mixture:
- 2/3 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
For the garlic butter topping:
- 2 - 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup butter
- Cilantro, chopped finely (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the whole milk, whisked eggs, salt, flour, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture starts to come together.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the instant yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the large bowl with the flour mixture. Stir using a silicon spatula until fully combined and a sticky dough forms. Use your hands at the end if necessary
- Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise at room temperature for 1½ hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, make the garlic butter topping by adding the butter and minced garlic into a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for one minute and set aside.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8-10 equal portions (depending on how large you want your naan). Roll each portion into a circular or oval shape about ¼ inch thick.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over high heat. Make sure the skillet is completely hot before cooking the naan! Cook each naan for 1 – 2 minutes on one side until bubbles form and the underside is golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 1 – 2 minutes.
- Remove the cooked naan from the skillet and immediately brush generously with the garlic butter. Serve warm.
