Units
Scale
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (optional; for color, you can also use regular)
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth (or water)
- 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
- 4 green onions, sliced into 1 inch pieces
Optional Garnishes:
- 1 tablespoon chili crisp
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
Instructions
- Heat a skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the ground beef and black pepper. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until the beef is fully browned and cooked through.
- While the beef is cooking, whisk together the soy sauce, dark soy sauce (if using), hoisin sauce, sugar, grated ginger, cornstarch, beef broth, and sesame oil in a bowl until smooth.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the browned beef. Stir well to combine and let it simmer for a few minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly.
- Add the sliced green onions and stir to combine, cooking just until slightly softened.
- Remove from heat and finish with chili crisp, toasted sesame seeds, and additional green onions if desired. Serve hot.
