Hey all! Real Farmer Jeff here.
For years, I’ve never considered upgrading my hose. Ultimately, the most important thing having a hose gets water from point A to point B.
However, after recently upgrading my hose to a Vego Hi-Flow model, it would be hard to go back. In this blog post, I walk through the features that I didn’t realize I would appreciate so much.

Retractable Design
The biggest benefit for me has been convenience.
The hose pulls out smoothly when I need it and automatically retracts back into the reel when I’m finished. I no longer have to drag a hose back across the yard, coil it up, or deal with a tangled mess sitting next to the house. Instead, everything stays neat and organized with almost no effort.
Kink-Resistant
Another feature that’s amazing is the kink-resistant hose design.
I don’t have to constantly stop and fix bends in the hose to restore water flow. The Vego hose I’m using has several internal layers that make kinking much less likely. In addition, the host nozzle can swivel 360 degrees, helps to not twist the hose.

180° Swivel Mount
The wall-mounted reel swivels as I move around the yard, allowing the hose to follow me instead of pulling against the mount.
It’s a small feature, but it makes the hose much easier to maneuver when I’m working in different areas of the garden.
High-Flow Performance
Many retractable systems use smaller hoses and lose water pressure. The Vego Hi-Flow model is designed with a larger-diameter hose to provide stronger water flow. Whether I’m watering my raised beds, rinsing off tools, or cleaning around the yard, it delivers plenty of water without feeling restrictive.

Built-to-Last
The reel has a durable UV-resistant housing designed for outdoor use, along with leak-resistant connections and quick-connect fittings that make setup simple.
It feels like a product that’s designed to be used regularly and hold up over time.
Installation
Installation was pretty straightforward and easy, though I did run into one frustrating issue. The instructions said to use a 3/8-inch socket to fasten the screws on the mount, but you really need a 10 mm socket. Even though those sizes are very close, the 10 mm is slightly smaller.
The reel can be mounted to a fence, wall, house, or post. I chose to mount mine on a dedicated post near the garden. While mounting requires a little more effort upfront than a traditional hose, I like having the reel positioned at a comfortable height. It makes the hose easier to pull out and retract, as well as keeps it off the ground and out of the way. Vego also sells a mounting post for gardeners who don’t already have a suitable location.
I never expected a hose reel to make such a noticeable difference in my gardening routine.
The combination of automatic retraction, kink resistance, strong water flow, and durable construction makes the Vego Hi-Flow Retractable Hose Reel an upgrade that might solve a lot of pain points in your garden.
